Space Oddity

I was thinking about Karmageddon the other day, and realized an immediate situation.

My role at basketball games not only involved playing guitar with a drummer, a bassist, and another guitarist, but accompanying the entire pep band. This required that I learn the songs that the pep band played, often transposing them from their original key signatures, most of which I committed to memory. Eric would play guitar with Karmageddon, then run up the stands and play trumpet with the pep band while the remainder of Karmageddon acted as the rhythm section for the pep band. There is absolutely no need for two guitarists to play with the pep band. In fact, I think I speak for everyone when I say that it wouldn't work. I myself am also a sousaphone player, opening up a few more options. Here are my suggestions for solutions:

  • If by chance our new guitarist plays a brass or woodwind instrument, more power to them. They can play said instrument with the pep band, and life goes on as normal. They could still play some guitar with the pep band if they would really like this.
  • If they don't, I could teach them some or all of the pep band's songs and they could take over my role last year while I joined the sousa section. Be forewarned, some of the songs have some weird chords and require some knowledge of theory.
  • Said guitarist just doesn't play with the pep band. Not my first choice, but cuts the commitment of said guitarist by a lot, because they could go home once Karmageddon finished our weekly practice and not have to stay for the entire pep band practice.
  • Working as a team and switching roles every so often, we let one person play guitar while the other runs errands for the rest. This involves communication with lots of people, maintenance, food runs, and securing the best seats to nearby Motorhead concerts and Potato Farmers of Washington events.
So there you have it. If you are considering auditioning for Karmageddon, take these into consideration.

Rock Me

Hello all,
Here is the audition material for our guitar spot. Auditions won't be for a long time (like September) but some of this stuff isn't easy depending on what you choose to play. Here you are and start practicing!

  • The rhythm guitar part from Beast and the Harlot by Avenged Sevenfold. Verse and Chorus.
  • The introduction solo to Rock You Like a Hurricane by the Scorpions. It doesn't matter which harmony part you choose.
  • Another song/solo of your choice. It could be a well known lick or riff, or an improvised solo.
See you next school year!

School's Out

Well school's out. Yay!

With this comes thoughts of marching band, pep band, and for me, finding the next guitarist for Karmageddon. By the way, Karmageddon is our informal name. We are technically the RHS Timeout Band. But that's not as fun.

If you are interested in the spot, start practicing! We need someone who can commit to 1+ weekly reahersals after school during the basketball season, who is willing to give up their Friday and Saturday nights (when I say give up, its not a sacrifice, playing at basketball games is a rush), and who is pretty good at guitar. And you have to go to RHS. Obviously.

As for the role we are looking to fill, Eric functioned mainly as a rhythm guitarist, but that doesn't necesarily mean any potential new members couldn't take some leads if they felt comfortable enough to do so.

I will post what I want to hear anyone interested play later, but for now, enjoy your summer!

Help!

Hello Karmageddon friends,
We tried this last winter to limited success, so we are going to try again to see what we get. In thinking ahead to next years basketball season, there are some songs we performed this past year that were really great. In just as great a number, there were a lot that really sucked. So, I ask you all, fellow music lovers, to give me some recommendations for next year of what you want to see Karmageddon play. This could be any song, pop, classical, rock, anything. I would love to begin forming a tentative set list for next year to fill the spots of the aforementioned songs that really sucked.

Leave your suggestions in the comments, email me, or just tell me in person! By the way, to commnet, just click where it says "x comments" and select Anonymous in the drop down menu. Unless you have a Google account.

Welcome to the Jungle

Hello all,
Welcome to the official Karmageddon fan page! Well, at least for those of us who don't have Facebook. Anyway, this blog is here for followers of the band Karmageddon, based in Richland, Washington. We are a rock band that primarily functions as a pre/post/timeout game entertainment group for Richland High School home basketball games. We are an extension of the RHS Pep Band that covers popular songs, but with our own twists. We also act as a performing group year round.

Although it is far off, with next year comes a need to fill our open rhythm guitar spot. Last year myself and our other members (Wyatt Wireman, Lucas Winkleman and Dustin Waite) had the awesome oppourtunity of working with unreal musician Eric Hofferber, who will be leaving for college later this summer. We will be holding auditions some time in late September/early October, so if you know someone, spread the word or just contact myself, Denin Koch. My e-mail address is accesible through my profile information. Just click on the picture of the guitar and then click "Email."

If you find this site, please spread the word to friends and family! We would love to share our music with them.
